Zoe Duong Pham

Zoe Duong Pham is a Vietnamese-born, Chicago-bred, and London-based visual storyteller working across digital illustration, animation and painting. Her practice is visceral and emotionally charged. Using bold colour and fluid movement, she explores the human connection to body, mind and emotion. She is interested in researching human self-expression through their choices of fashion, music and world building.

Zoe’s art is her rebellion against silence. Through her work, she challenges the inherited cultural expectations of femininity and sexual agency.

Zoe previously studied animation and filmmaking at the Royal College of Art (London) and DePaul University (Chicago). Her animated films have screened internationally at festivals including BIT BANG, LIAF, VOID, Atlanta Film Festival, and Nashville Film Festival, among others.

Red Plastic Stool

Illustration series  (on-going)

This illustration series is inspired by the various ways that red plastic stools are used in Vietnamese community settings. From street food vendors, social events to classroom settings, the red plastic stool has become a staple in Vietnamese community life.

The design comes from a practical need rather than aesthetic or branding. Because of its flexibility and practicality, this chair is deeply connected to the rhythms of the streets and vibrant culture in Vietnam.

This series in a celebration of the relationship that is built and formed between people while sitting on the stool as well as the relationship between this iconic stool and the people.

Star Nhà Ease Film Posters

Commission work

I created 3 posters for Star Nhà Ease film festival (2025) as part of the festival’s exhibition “Rewind and Reframe” which is on display at Rich Mix Cinema (London) from July 3rd - August 13th, 2025.

  1. Short program “Tides of Change” poster. (rejected)
  2. Short program “Tides of Change” poster (accepted) Reflecting Vietnam’s cultural crossroads where tradition and transformation exist in dynamic tension. In this poster, I visualize the push and pull between generational values and evolving economies. A sweeping wave bisects the composition, embodying the “tide”, with each half representating a distinct path: continuty and change. On one side, a tour boat surges forward, carrying with the promise if renewal and on the other side, a solitary man sits idly beyond a burning roof signaling a sign of acceptance and defiance. I want to create this juxtaposition to invite the viewers to consider not only what changes but what endured, the complexity of choice in a shifting lanscape.
  3. Re-Imagined poster of “The Bitter Taste of Love” (1990).
  4. My interpretation of this film centres on the qutie resiliebce if a post-war generation daring to dream again. I pair the image of the protagonist Phuong standing at the door of her family’s house looking out to the rain drops that encapsulate the flowers that was given to her by an admirer to symbolize hope. This poster is a tribute to a generation navigating tenderness against the backdrop of trauma and posing the question: “What now?”.
